One of the new generation’s most talented young string virtuosi” (The Violin Channel), 19 year old South Korean violinist In Mo Yang earned First Prize at the 54th Paganini International Violin Competition, marking the first time since 2006 that this honour was awarded. In Mo also won the awards for youngest finalist, best performance of a contemporary original piece, and performance most appreciated by the audience.

Making his Carnegie Hall debut April 2016, he has garnered other coveted prizes – a first at the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition and a second at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition. Upcoming solo appearances include a special recital in Genoa, Italy, using Paganini’s own Guarneri del Gesu violin. He has performed with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, and the Austin, Central Aichi, KBS, and Korean Symphony Orchestras.

In Mo plays on a Giovanni Tononi violin, ca. 1690, on generous loan from Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute, and will enthrall us with Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in A minor, WoO27 and other outer worldly violin works. Canadian debut.

From his first entrance onward, Yang was an arresting performer: now sweet, now excitable, now chaste, now florid, and always, everywhere, in command.” The Boston Globe

“Yang had conveyed a depth of feeling for the score that made you hungry for more, more, more from his bow. Stunning!” Splash Magazine (Chicago)
